Follow the manufacturer
Your lift manual states the oil type and viscosity grade. Always use that grade, not simply what is available.
What ISO VG 68 means
ISO VG is a viscosity classification. VG 68 describes an oil with a viscosity of about 68 centistokes at 40 degrees Celsius. Anti-wear hydraulic oils are commonly used in such systems, but your manufacturer decides the correct type.
Good practice
- Do not mix different oil types or brands unless the manufacturer allows it
- Keep drums sealed and stored clean and dry
- Filter or strain oil when topping up
- Check for water or milky oil, which signals contamination
- Dispose of used oil lawfully
Hot climates
In very hot conditions oil thins as it warms. Check the oil data sheet and the lift manufacturer guidance for your operating temperatures.
