Site and layout
Allow room for vehicles to enter, wait and leave without blocking traffic. Plan where the lift, pump, compressor and chemical storage will sit, with space for staff to work safely.
Water supply
Estimate daily water use and provide storage so the pump is never starved. Check water quality: hard or dirty water damages seals and nozzles, so use filtration.
Drainage and wastewater
Wash water carries oil, soap and grit. Provide a sloped floor, a sludge trap or separator, and a lawful disposal route. Check the requirements of your local authority or environmental agency.
Electricity
Add up motor loads, confirm single- or three-phase supply, use correctly rated cables and breakers, and provide proper earthing because water and electricity are close together. Consider backup for power cuts.
Equipment
A typical bay uses a lift, pressure pump, foam machine and compressor. See complete setup.
Approvals and safety
Check local permissions, and, for sites inside a petrol station, the safety and layout rules of your oil marketing company. Provide fire extinguishers, signage and staff training.
