Will not start
- Check power supply, fuses and breaker
- Reset the motor overload protection after it cools
- Check the pressure switch
- On single-phase motors a faulty capacitor is common
Slow to build pressure
- Air leaks in pipes, fittings or the drain valve
- Blocked intake filter
- Loose or slipping belt
- Worn valves or piston rings
Overheating
Dust on cooling fins, poor ventilation, wrong oil level or running a unit too large a share of the time. Move the machine to a clean, ventilated place.
Water or oil in the air
Water collects in the tank as condensation, so drain it regularly and fit a filter or dryer where air quality matters. Oil carry-over may indicate overfilling or worn rings.
